Who are we? Why are we here? Where are we going?

As Latter-day Saint women, we know the answers to these questions. Sometimes, though, the world beats us down. We get distracted. We may feel anxious or depressed by seemingly insurmountable issues in our lives or in society at large. Speak Excellent Things is a place where faithful women can find respite, inspiration, and. we hope, a smile or two. We are here to  strengthen one another as we seek to build lives congruent with our eternal identities as daughters of God, daughters of the covenant, and disciples of Christ

Hear, for I will speak of excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things

Proverbs 8:6

Wondering about our name?

Why “Speak Excellent Things?” You probably already noticed the reference above to Proverbs 8:6. In the book of Proverbs, wisdom is portrayed as a woman, one capable of preaching, entreating, and leading others to happiness, peace, and – ultimately – God.

In Proverbs 8:6, Wisdom is standing at a busy intersection, calling out to passersby, exhorting them to listen to her as she “speaks of excellent things,” We felt this was exactly the image we wanted for this website and our community: a holy woman (or women who want to become holy someday) sharing excellent things with all who will listen.

It started in the temple . . .

Years ago, a woman sitting in the Celestial Room of the Washington, DC temple received a distinct impression to start a blog. She dismissed it. What do I know about blogs? she thought. With family, work, and callings, she had no time for a blog. What would she even write about? The idea persisted, though.

Time passed. She began to experience challenges she never thought she would. Many of her friends were experiencing similar things. They shared their anxieties with one another, and drew strength from each other. Life seemed much brighter when they reminded one another that while their lives may not be what they had envisioned for themselves, God has a vision for each of his children – and his eternal vision is greater than anything they could imagineHmmm, the woman thought, maybe it’s time to start that blog!

She spoke with a few excellent friends, and shared her idea. They saw the vision and agreed to help. Speak Excellent Things was born!

We are united, however, by our belief in Christ and his gospel.
